The Perfect Mistake #476

SURFING WITH JESUS #476053007

THE PERFECT MISTAKE

Grandpa Nybakken loved life, especially when he could play a trick on somebody. At those times, his large Norwegian frame shook with laughter while he feigned innocent surprise, exclaiming, “Oh, forevermore!” But on a cold Saturday in downtown Chicago, Grandpa felt that God played a trick on him, and Grandpa wasn’t laughing.

Mother’s father worked as a carpenter. On this particular day, he was building some crates for the clothes his church was sending to an orphanage in China. On his way home, he reached into his shirt pocket to find his glasses, but they were gone. He remembered putting them there that morning, so he drove back to the church. His search proved fruitless.

When he mentally replayed his earlier actions, he realized what happened. The glasses had slipped out of his pocket unnoticed and fallen into one of the crates, which he had nailed shut. His brand new glasses were heading for China!

The Great Depression was at its height, and Grandpa had six children. He had spent twenty dollars for those glasses that very morning.

“It’s not fair,” he told God as he drove home in frustration. “I’ve been very faithful in giving of my time and money to your work, and now this.”

Several months later, the director of the orphanage was on furlough in the United States. He wanted to visit all the churches that supported him in China, so he came to speak on Sunday night at my grandfather’s small church in Chicago. Grandpa and his family sat in their customary seats among the sparse congregation.

“But most of all,” he said, “I must thank you for the glasses you sent last year. You see, the Communists had just swept through the orphanage, destroying everything, including my glasses. I was desperate.”

“Even if I had the money, there was simply no way of replacing those glasses. Along with not being able to see well, I experienced headaches every day, so my coworkers and I were much in prayer about this. Then your crates arrived. When my staff removed the covers, they found a pair of glasses lying on top.”

The missionary paused long enough to let his words sink in. Then, still gripped with the wonder of it all, he continued, “Folks, when I tried on the glasses, it was as though they had been custom-made just for me! I want to thank you for being a part of that!”

The people listened, happy for the miraculous glasses, but the missionary surely must have confused their church with another, they thought. There were no glasses on their list of items to be sent overseas.

But sitting quietly in the back, with tears streaming down his face, an ordinary carpenter realized the Master Carpenter had used him in an extraordinary way. (Shared by one of our readers)

A Friend Is A Friend #475

SURFING WITH JESUS #475052307
Pastor Gene A. Dasher, Sr.
gene@SurfingwithJesus.com.

A Friend Is A Friend

Proverbs 18:24 “A man that hath friends must show himself friendly: and there is a friend that sticketh closer than a brother.”

Proverb 17:17 “A friend loveth at all times, and a brother is born for adversity,”

John 15:13”Greater love hath no man than this that a man lay down his life for his friends.”

Everyone loves to have friends. It is special when one can trust someone to be there for you. Of, course there is no one that fits this like Jesus. He is always there, he understands, and is on call 24 hours a day.

However, it is also good to have a friend as we take our journey here in this life. The writer says you must show yourself to be a friend if you want a friend. That means that whether you agree or disagree from time to time you are always there to listen and care for this one that sticks close to you.

Friends love us at all times and when good times come they are present to celebrate with us. Likewise, when bad times come our way they are first on the scene to hold our hand and encourage us to make it thru the day until light comes our way.

In our life we have had and do have friends that love and place their lives on the line today that we might enjoy the freedoms we have in our lives. Over the years many of them have bravely died in other lands fighting wars to keep war from our land.

Today, we have many such hero’s and friends standing all over the world working and dying to keep war off our soil. During this Memorial Day Weekend, I pray we will take a moment to remember all who have given some, those who have given all, and those who are giving right now so we can work and play and enjoy all that God has blessed us with.

Thank you one and all for being my friend and giving your all for me and my family today. You are not forgotten in our home and we appreciate you.

A Truly Good Mom (Wife) #474

SURFING WITH JESUS #474051007
Pastor Gene A. Dasher, Sr.
gene@SurfingwithJesus.com.

A TRULY GOOD MOM (WIFE)

Proverbs has a lot to say about women. How fitting that the book ends with a
picture of one who “excellest them all. She is a woman of strong character,
great wisdom, many skills, and great compassion. This woman is an excellent
wife and mother.

Recently it was stated in our mass media that the price of such a woman in our
world today is $138.000 a year. Men if we had to pay that I would lose my
lovely wife. This woman is a manufacturer, importer, manager, realtor, farmer,
seamstress, upholsterer, and merchant. Her strength and dignity do not come
from her amazing achievements. They are a result of her reverence for God.

Today, where physical appearance counts for so much, it may surprise you that
her appearance isn’t mentioned. Her attractiveness comes entirely from her
character. Your days are not long enough to do everything she does. See her as
an inspiration to be all you can be as a precious mother.

Give honor and praise to your mom this Mother’s Day week. If your mom is no
longer with you adopt a mom in your life and do something special for her. I
thank the Lord everyday I still have my precious God fearing, praying, lovely
mother. My wife was blessed with a wonderful mother that was my buddy for
many years before leaving us for Glory. I love you Lois Viola Dasher, and I miss
you Christine Rominger.

In closing let us take a moment in God’s word and read about a truly good mom and wife.

Proverbs 31:10-31
10 Who can find a virtuous woman? for her price is far above rubies. 11 The
heart of her husband doth safely trust in her, so that he shall have no need
of spoil. 12 She will do him good and not evil all the days of her life. 13
She seeketh wool, and flax, and worketh willingly with her hands. 14 She is
like the merchants' ships; she bringeth her food from afar. 15 She riseth also
while it is yet night, and giveth meat to her household, and a portion to her
maidens. 16 She considereth a field, and buyeth it: with the fruit of her
hands she planteth a vineyard. 17 She girdeth her loins with strength, and
strengtheneth her arms. 18 She perceiveth that her merchandise is good: her
candle goeth not out by night. 19 She layeth her hands to the spindle, and her
hands hold the distaff. 20 She stretcheth out her hand to the poor; yea, she
reacheth forth her hands to the needy. 21 She is not afraid of the snow for
her household: for all her household are clothed with scarlet. 22 She maketh
herself coverings of tapestry; her clothing is silk and purple. 23 Her husband
is known in the gates, when he sitteth among the elders of the land. 24 She
maketh fine linen, and selleth it; and delivereth girdles unto the merchant.
25 Strength and honour are her clothing; and she shall rejoice in time to
come. 26 She openeth her mouth with wisdom; and in her tongue is the law of
kindness. 27 She looketh well to the ways of her household, and eateth not the
bread of idleness. 28 Her children arise up, and call her blessed; her husband
also, and he praiseth her. 29 Many daughters have done virtuously, but thou
excellest them all. 30 Favour is deceitful, and beauty is vain: but a woman that
feareth the LORD, she shall be praised. 31Give her of the fruit of her hands;
and let her own works praise her in the gates.

Celebrate God’s love bestowed on you with a special mom this week.

Slow Down #473

SURFING WITH JESUS #473050307
Pastor Gene A. Dasher, Sr.
gene@SurfingwithJesus.com.

SLOW DOWN

"Slow down and smell the roses." people say it, write about it, and some take time to do it. Our families are entirely too busy today. Headline in an area paper this morning, "Father arrested after son dies in hot car." This father who had four kids was taking them to school and daycare and he forgot about the baby in the back seat, drove to work, went back to his car later in the day and found his baby unresponsive.

How tragic to lose your son in a hot car? Several said today "I don't see how you can forget your child." Mom worked at the same business but was unaware of the situation. In our society today with everyone busy, busy, busy, I can see how this may happen. Everyone is so caught up with doing so many things from work, church and family activities that we don't take time to enjoy each other. This is the result of having too many things to do. Now this father is in jail charged with criminally negligent homicide and aggravated child abuse and neglect.

Folks, we need to slow down and smell the roses. I'm sure many other
situations similar to this occur but when we get this busy we are too busy. We
need to take time for each other and look at the creation of God around us. I
love to listen to the birds as daylight begins. I love to watch the sun come up over the mountain as I drive to work. There are so many things we can do to
appreciate all that God has blessed us with. Look at your child, what do you
see in his eyes this morning? Read a few verses of scripture, take a deep breath, give him a smile and a hug.

God has blessed us with so much but we find ourselves so busy pursuing more and more things that we forget what we have right before us. At times like these we are forced to slow down and think about life and how important it is to appreciate every moment of each day and see how fragile life really is.

Lord, bless this family today, may it open our eyes to see how easy it is to get so caught up in our daily routine that we forget to value life until it is too late. Give strength to this family in the days ahead, love them in this time of trouble and may they know your hand is near to help them in Jesus name I pray.

Lord help all of us to slow down and smell the roses!

Silence or Prayer #472

SURFING WITH JESUS #47242307
Pastor Gene A. Dasher, Sr.
gene@SurfingwithJesus.com.

With permission I share this writing for the glory of God

DAILY-E-VOTIONAL
BLESSINGS FROM THE HEART

April 18, 2007
Pastor Cecil A. Thompson

"SILENCE OR PRAYER?"
Mark 7:6-8
"He replied, "Isaiah was right when he prophesied about you hypocrites; as it is written: 'These people honor me with their lips, but their hearts are far from me. They worship me in vain; their teachings are but rules taught by men.' You have let go of the commands of God and are holding on to the traditions of men."

As you know, Monday morning there was a terrible tragedy on the campus of Virginia Tech. It is the deadliest shooting rampage in U.S. history. Thirty two were killed and many wounded before the gunman turned the gun on himself and took his own life.

A few hours after the carnage, I was watching some of the coverage on television. The station I was watching showed the scene on the campus of Virginia Tech and then shifted to the United States House of Representatives. The speaker of the House, Nancy Pelosi, stood at the podium and solemnly asked for all members to rise for one minute of silence in tribute to the terrible tragedy.

Shortly following this coverage, the scene shifted to the White House where President Bush called on all Americans to pray for the families of those who had lost loved ones in this terrible attack.

Since viewing those two shots, I have been meditating on the terrible condition of our nation. We have removed God from our schools and our government. The original separation of church and state has been perverted. It had been intended by our founding fathers to prevent the government to force religion on the people. It has now been used as the rallying cry for those who want to outlaw the sincere expression of worship by citizens.

A moment of silence is not the same as a time of prayer. It might look pious and sanctimonious, but it is not prayer! That seems to be the problem of the human heart. We feel that if we go through the motions and appear to be holy, then God will be pleased with us.

Here is what God says through His prophet in Isaiah 64:6; "But we are all as an unclean thing, and all our righteousnesses are as filthy rags; and we all do fade as a leaf; and our iniquities, like the wind, have taken us away."

We need more than a moment of silence, we need hours of prayer. As individuals and as a people, we need to recognize that it is God and God alone who is able to do what we are not able to do. We need to fall on our face before the Lord of the universe and confess our sins as well as the sins of nation or nations.

God has given us a precious promise for those who call upon His name. II Chronicles 7:14; "If My people, who are called by My name, will humble themselves and pray and seek My face and turn from their wicked ways, then will I hear from heaven and will forgive their sin and will heal their land." Thank you Lord! We do not deserve Your favor, but we certainly do need it!

Blessings dear hearts. Walk with God today, trust Him completely, and be a blessing. - - - Pastor Cecil- - - Subscribe at mailto:PastorCecil@Daily-E-Votional.com?subject=SUBSCRIBE

Planting Seed #471

SURFING WITH JESUS #471041607
Pastor Gene A. Dasher, Sr.
gene@SurfingwithJesus.com.

PLANTING SEED

I believe planting seed is necessary for you to have a crop. If you want tomatoes they don’t grow with the seed in your hand. I’ve never seen so much preaching and ministering on TV encouraging you to plant a seed by sending money to a given ministry. I enjoy good sound teaching, singing, and preaching and I have no problem supporting other ministries but I believe it should start at home.

What are you saying? I’m saying you need to return your tithes unto the Lord at your home church and support these ministries with all your heart. You need to give offerings above your tithes to your local ministries. Once you have done this look to additional ministries to plant more seed. God will bless all giving as you give it unto the Lord equally well.

It’s amazing how one can get caught up with planting seed everywhere but fail to give to their local church. It’s exciting; it makes a big splash, and makes you feel good. It’s good to croak for your own pond where you are fed each week and allow God to direct you in giving.

I had a local minister from another organization visit my church while we were in revival and ask to testify. As a courtesy I was happy to allow him to share. What he shared was truth even though it was hard for some to receive. He said” if every person who proclaims they are a Christian gave their tenth, their tithes unto the Lord each week, no minister would have to work a secular job because there would be plenty in the store house to take care of their needs.”

I looked at my church and sure enough in studying this concept I could see how I could give full service without an additional job. Wow! The bible does have the answer. Yes, I do support both my local church and ministries outside my church. I receive a big blessing from other ministries and encourage you to plant those seed but please don’t forget that charity begins at home.

My desire with this writing is to encourage you to give and plant those seed. Allow God to give you a great harvest as you give $58, $70, $77, $1000, $2000,$2007, or more but don’t get caught up in a spirit that will lead you to overlook the needs at home. Several have said recently in their programs that you are not doing this for us, we don’t need your money, we are doing this for you so you can be debt free, get a raise, increase 100 fold etc.

As we join together to reach the lost for Jesus Christ. I pray you will take Isaiah 64:8 to heart “ But now, O Lord, thou art our father; we are the clay, and thou our potter; and we all are the work of thy hand.” Allow the potter to mold you and make you after His will. Wait upon the Lord and lean not on your understanding and he will direct your path in all you’re giving.

1John 1: 9 “If we confess our sins he is faithful and just to forgive us our sins and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness.”
