Good Luck Charms

"Delight yourself in the Lord and he will give you the desires of
your heart." (Psalm 37:4).
Scripture Focus: Leviticus 26:1-13

Do you remember having a good luck charm when you were young? It may
have been a rabbit's foot or a lucky penny. We must have wanted
something to hold onto. Probably not one of us knows the whereabouts
of those items today.

Thankfully, we cling to something lasting, and His name is Jesus
Christ. While the human heart craves good fortune and places its
confidence in meaningless objects, the One Who will never be moved
holds out His hand to us.

The wisdom of Psalm 37 gives us more assurance than any four-leaf
clover. "Trust in the LORD" (vs. 3); "Delight yourself in the LORD"
(vs. 4); and "Commit your way to the LORD" (vs. 5).

While many discard old "good luck charms," some people today still
cling to them. Abandon those childish ways. Let the Word of Christ
dwell in you richly. Then not only will you know how to hate what is
evil and cling to what is good (Romans 12:9), but also you'll know
the One in Whose grip you are tightly held. Let the rabbits keep
their feet!

Insight: The devil is not opposed to faith if its object is anything
or anyone but God. But he trembles when it is.

REJOICING WITH BISHOP JOHN B.MURPHY

It’s hard to be sad today but I am as my spiritual dad and mentor has gone home to glory. However, I do rejoice with my dear friend, confidant, and spiritual leader as he reached his goal and went to be with Jesus for evermore.

I know many of you have never heard of Bro. Murphy but I ask you to bear with me today. Those who knew him knew how he could make you laugh and cry as he fed you the word of God in a way you would never forget.

This man gave his all to his family, his church, his friends and many he did not even know. Wherever you found Bro. John you found life and looked forward to being with him. He was a great builder; his hands were involved in 27 different buildings or structures with the money often coming out of his pocket because he wanted to see a job finished.

It goes without saying a church and congregation were never the same after Bro Murphy placed his loving hands on it. He loved God and he loved people. One time I was visiting the State parsonage in Louisiana and I was in his small office and looked at his library. His library basically consisted of his bible, a dictionary, and church minutes. He would get alone with God and seek him until he found the food he was going to feed us from God’s word.

There was never a dull moment when Bro. John was around. If in a restaurant, in the hospital, in your home, building a building or at church he would be the life of the day. He laughed with me as he taught me the difference between a stud and a 2x4. He wanted to saw off the end of my hammer if I wasn’t going to use all of it. He listened to the birds on a hot summer day as he stood on top of a Jim Walter’s home and ask us if we knew what they said. Of course we said no and he proceeded to tell us they said what we were doing was “it’s a mess, it’s a mess.” We quit for the day.

This man knew how to get a hold of God and yielded to him as he proclaimed the word of God. I remember one time when he asked me to drive him to Memphis. He got in the pulpit and began to preach and quoted scripture after scripture. I declare it seemed like he was floating across that stage. People didn’t jump up and go in and out of the service. Everyone sat spell bound as the spirit of God flowed and filled the house as this servant of God yielded his all to the Lord.

I want to thank the six Murphy Children and all the grandkids for sharing Bro. John with us. There is not enough time or space to tell of all the blessings him and your mom (Sis. Alberta) bestowed upon us over the years. When you learn to cook like they did and bake pecan pies and cakes like Bro John not to mention his special recipe on cooking steaks I will be right over.

But until then, I will keep on singing and praising God for allowing this precious man of God to impact my heart and life. Lord, help me love people like Bro. John and help me share your word and proclaim your love with all my heart until you call me home.

PSALMS 91 #658110510

Psalm 91

The safety of the godly man, and his confidence, Psalm 91:1, Psalm 91:2. How he is defended and preserved, Psalm 91:3-10. The angels of God are his servants, Psalm 91:11, Psalm 91:12; and he shall tread on the necks of his adversaries, Psalm 91:13. What God says of, and promises to, such a person, Psalm 91:14-16.

This Psalm has no title in the Hebrew; nor can it be determined on what occasion or by whom it was composed. ..It is one of the finest Psalms in the whole collection… It is one of the most excellent works of this kind which has ever appeared.

Psalm 91:1

1He that dwelleth in the secret place of the most High shall abide under the shadow of the Almighty.

This is a dialogue between David, Solomon, and Jehovah.

David asserts: "He who dwelleth in the secret place of the Most High shall abide under the shadow of the Almighty," Psalm 91:1.

Solomon answers: "I will say of the Lord, He is my refuge and my fortress; my God, in him will I trust," Psalm 91:2.

David replies, and tells him what blessings he shall receive from God if he abide faithful, Psalm 91:3-13.

Then the Supreme Being is introduced, and confirms all that David had spoken concerning Solomon, Psalm 91:14-16 : and thus this sacred and instructive dialogue ends.

In the secret place of the Most High - Spoken probably in reference to the Holy of holies. He who enters legitimately there shall be covered with the cloud of God's glory - the protection of the all-sufficient God. This was the privilege of the high priest only, under the law: but under the new covenant all believers in Christ have boldness to enter into the holiest by the blood of Jesus; and those who thus enter are safe from every evil.

I am thankful for the safety I find in God and his word. How about you?

BABY PORCUPINE #657103010

BABY PORCUPINE

Have you ever seen a baby porcupine? Look at these beautiful images and learn the fable. I wish it was possible for you to see the pictures that came with this because they are so cute. Thanks for sharing Renske Schoeman [renske.schoeman@pathcare.co.za]

Fable of the porcupine

It was the coldest winter ever - many animals died because of the cold. The porcupines, realizing the situation, decided to group together. This way they covered and protected themselves; but the quills of each one wounded their closest companions even though they gave off heat to each other. After awhile they decided to distance themselves one from the other and they began to die alone and frozen. So they had to make a choice: either accept the quills of their companions or disappear from the Earth. Wisely, they decided to go back to being together. This way they learned to live with the little wounds that were caused by the close relationship with their companion, but the most important part of it, was the heat that came from the others. This way they were able to survive.

Moral of the story:

The best relationship is not the one that brings together perfect people, but the best is when each individual learns to live with the imperfections of others and can admire the other person's good qualities.

It is hard to argue with this story. We need each other. Looking for the good in each other will help us love each other and lift each other up as we share the love of Jesus with others.
