THANKSGIVING FOR ANSWERED PRAYER

Join me as I share Psalm 138 and some of the commentary footnotes in my Tyndale Publishers Life Application Bible. (Page 1065)

Psalm 138 King James Version (KJV)

1I will praise thee with my whole heart: before the gods will I sing praise unto thee. 2I will worship toward thy holy temple, and praise thy name for thy lovingkindness and for thy truth: for thou hast magnified thy word above all thy name. 3In the day when I cried thou answeredst me, and strengthenedst me with strength in my soul. 4All the kings of the earth shall praise thee, O LORD, when they hear the words of thy mouth. 5Yea, they shall sing in the ways of the LORD: for great is the glory of the LORD. 6Though the LORD be high, yet hath he respect unto the lowly: but the proud he knoweth afar off. 7Though I walk in the midst of trouble, thou wilt revive me: thou shalt stretch forth thine hand against the wrath of mine enemies, and thy right hand shall save me. 8The LORD will perfect that which concerneth me: thy mercy, O LORD, endureth for ever: forsake not the works of thine own hands.

The theme of Psalm 138 is “Thanksgiving for answered prayer”. “God works out his plans for our lives and will bring us through the difficulties we face.”

“As we thank God for material and spiritual blessings, we should also thank him for answered prayer. Remember when you asked God for protection, strength, comfort, patience, love, or other special needs and he supplied them? Beware of taking God’s provision for granted.”

“Each of us dreams and makes plans and makes plans for our future. We work hard to see those dreams and plans come true. But to truly make the most of life, we must include God’s plan in our plans. He alone knows what is best for us; he alone can ‘perfect that which concerneth me.’ As you make plans and dream dreams, talk with God about them.”

Lord I lift my voice in adoration and praise today. My desire is your will and yours alone as I face each day and each challenge. Thank you Lord for you are my strength and my fortress. You are my God and there is none other.

REMEMBER

“If we confess our sins he is faithful and just to forgive us our sins and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness.” 1John 1:9

STONE

TWO FRIENDS WERE WALKING
THROUGH THE DESERT.
DURING SOME POINT OF THE
JOURNEY, THEY HAD AN
ARGUMENT; AND ONE FRIEND
SLAPPED THE OTHER ONE
IN THE FACE

THE ONE WHO GOT SLAPPED
WAS HURT, BUT WITHOUT
SAYING ANYTHING,
WROTE IN THE SAND,

"TODAY MY BEST FRIEND
SLAPPED ME IN THE FACE. “

THEY KEPT ON WALKING,
UNTIL THEY FOUND AN OASIS,
WHERE THEY DECIDED
TO TAKE A BATH

THE ONE WHO HAD BEEN
SLAPPED GOT STUCK IN THE
MIRE AND STARTED DROWNING,
BUT THE FRIEND SAVED HIM...

AFTER HE RECOVERED FROM
THE NEAR DROWNING,
HE WROTE ON A STONE:

'TODAY MY BEST FRIEND
SAVED MY LIFE'

THE FRIEND WHO HAD SLAPPED
AND SAVED HIS BEST FRIEND
ASKED HIM, 'AFTER I HURT YOU,
YOU WROTE IN THE SAND AND NOW,
YOU WRITE ON A STONE, WHY?'

THE FRIEND REPLIED
'WHEN SOMEONE HURTS US
WE SHOULD WRITE IT DOWN
IN SAND, WHERE WINDS OF
FORGIVENESS CAN ERASE IT AWAY.

BUT, WHEN SOMEONE DOES
SOMETHING GOOD FOR US,
WE MUST ENGRAVE IT IN STONE
WHERE NO WIND
CAN EVER ERASE IT'

LEARN TO WRITE
YOUR HURTS IN
THE SAND AND TO
CARVE YOUR
BENEFITS IN STONE.

THEY SAY IT TAKES A
MINUTE TO FIND A SPECIAL PERSON,

AN HOUR TO APPRECIATE THEM,

A DAY TO LOVE THEM,

BUT THEN,

AN ENTIRE LIFE
TO FORGET THEM.

TAKE THE TIME TO LIVE!

Be kinder than necessary, for everyone you meet is fighting some kind of battle.

WHEN YOU REACH THE END OF YOUR ROPE, YOU WILL FIND THE HEM OF HIS GARMENT

REMEMBER

“If we confess our sins he is faithful and just to forgive us our sins and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness.” 1John 1:9

GREAT TO BE HOME

After spending a week in Reno, Nevada at the Vietnam Veterans of America National Convention it is great to be home. It was nice to be with fellow Veterans and meet new ones as we try to find ways to take care of our Veterans. Vietnam Veterans have made the promise we will not let another generation of Veterans be left behind.

No, I didn’t get rich and I didn’t go broke while in Reno. In fact I walked by the machines and never played them. You know God is good wherever you go. I was able to spend time with a fairly new friend (Jim) our local Vice President and enjoying getting better acquainted as we represented our Cleveland Chapter 596.

I got tickled on Wednesday night Jim said he missed not being in his local church service. I said that’s no problem we can have service right now. So, on the 27th floor of the Silver Legacy looking out over the dessert and mountains I got the Gideon Bible off of the table while Jim got his Bible out and we read, talked and prayed. Folks I can have church anywhere or anytime. Such a sweet spirit as we worshipped together.

Why do I go to these Conventions? Well, I want to do all I can to help fellow Veterans. I’ve served in many positions and take serious the needs of those who put their life on the line for our Nation. Whether in a war zone or not they are still serving us. As State Chaplain, and Cleveland Tennessee Chapter 596 Chaplain I want to be ready and prepared to meet any need one may have.

While away my wife, daughter, and another local Veteran and his family took care of the services at our church and God blessed them as they sang, taught and preached. Thank you Edwina, Christy, D. L. and family for being ready and prepared to serve Union Grove while I was away.

God is so wonderful. It is so good to have fellow Christians to fellowship and worship with. I don’t know how anyone can deny him or fail to give him the honor glory and praise for all he does for us. God is ever present and “He is real in my soul.”

I have been blessed to have a new roof on my house this week and a new roof on my son’s home. I didn’t think the tornados of April 27th had done much damage but a stranger came by and brought it to my attention. After replacing 41 boards on my son’s home we are happy that everything will be finished this week. Two new roofs with Insurance kicking in most of it. Thank you Lord!

I’ll close for now, just wanted you to know I haven’t forgotten you just been away. I prayed for you each day and will continue to lift you up before the Lord. He knows your heart, he knows your need, and he will provide.

HEAVY HEART #70208122011

HEAVY HEART

It breaks my heart to see another 41 of our hero’s lose their life this week in a war zone. Let us take time to pray for these families along with the many others that have previously lost love ones. Lord may we realize we stand in need of you.

Join me in reading Psalm 131 and take this moment to receive from the word. Per

1Lord, my heart is not haughty, nor mine eyes lofty: neither do I exercise myself in great matters, or in things too high for me.

2Surely I have behaved and quieted myself, as a child that is weaned of his mother: my soul is even as a weaned child.

3Let Israel hope in the LORD from henceforth and for ever.

The commentators in my Life Application Bible by Tyndale House share some good thoughts on this. Maybe we and our Nation could learn from it.

“Pride results by overvaluing ourselves and undervaluing others. It leads to restlessness because it makes us dissatisfied with what we have and concerned about what everyone else is doing. It keeps us always hungering for more attention and adoration. By contrast, humility puts others first and allows us to be content with God’s leading in our lives. Such contentment gives us security so that we no longer have to prove ourselves to others. Let humility and trust affect your perspective and give you the strength and freedom to serve God and others.”

Lord help me this day to be humble in your sight and help me trust you as I go my way. You are the truth and the light and my desire is to love you and love others. Heaven is my goal and seeing you is all that will satisfy me. Thank you! You are my God!
